O trio que localiza tudo no tempo e no espaço

In, on e at respondem 'onde?' e 'quando?'. A lógica geral: in para espaços fechados e períodos longos, on para superfícies e dias, at para pontos exatos de lugar e hora. Com esse mapa, você acerta a maioria dos casos.

Quando usar

In para lugares fechados, cidades e países: "She lives in Brazil".
In para meses, anos e partes do dia: "My birthday is in December".
On para superfícies: "The phone is on the table".
On para dias da semana e datas: "The meeting is on Friday".
At para pontos específicos e horas exatas: "I am at the bus stop at 7 o'clock".

Como formar

In (dentro / períodos longos) in + lugar fechado, cidade, país, mês, ano

The milk is in the fridge. I was born in 2000. — O leite está na geladeira. Eu nasci em 2000.

On (superfície / dias) on + superfície, dia da semana, data

The picture is on the wall. See you on Sunday. — O quadro está na parede. Te vejo no domingo.

At (ponto exato / hora) at + ponto específico, hora, lugares fixos (home, work, school)

She is at work. The movie starts at 9 pm. — Ela está no trabalho. O filme começa às 21h.

Exceções que caem em prova at night, on the weekend (EUA), in the morning/afternoon/evening

I study at night and relax on the weekend. — Eu estudo à noite e relaxo no fim de semana.

Dias da semana sempre com on. O brasileiro pensa 'na segunda' e escolhe in, mas o inglês exige on Monday.

The bus arrives in the morning.

Partes do dia usam in: in the morning, in the afternoon. A exceção famosa é at night.
