Mow Less, Preach Less: gramados, vizinhos e campanhas ambientais (B2)

The perfect lawn is one of the strangest inheritances of suburban life. It demands water in August, chemicals in spring and a machine that wakes the whole street on Sunday morning, and it feeds almost nothing. Campaigns encouraging people to mow less have therefore been welcome, though their tone occasionally does them harm. Telling a retired man that his lawn is an ecological disgrace is unlikely to produce a meadow; it usually produces a sharper mower. What works better is smaller and less righteous. Leave one corner uncut. Plant three native shrubs that flower in different months. Keep the path tidy, so that the neighbours understand the difference between a wild patch and neglect. Gardens are social objects as well as ecological ones, and any campaign that forgets the first will lose the second.

Resposta correta: B

A crítica é de tom, não de conteúdo: "Telling a retired man that his lawn is an ecological disgrace is unlikely to produce a meadow; it usually produces a sharper mower", e o que funciona é "smaller and less righteous". A alternativa sobre ignorar o consumo de água contraria o próprio segundo período do texto, que denuncia esse gasto. A alternativa sobre deixar tudo sem corte também não procede, pois o autor recomenda deixar apenas um canto e manter o caminho arrumado.
