Fuvest 1977: como dizer “ele nao deveria ter feito isso”

Qual destas expressões corresponde a "ele não deveria ter feito isso":

  1. A) He mustn't have made it;
  2. B) He shouldn't have done that;
  3. C) He could not have made it;
  4. D) He might not have done that;
  5. E) He cannot have done that.

“Não deveria ter feito isso” é censura a algo que já aconteceu, e a forma que expressa isso é “should have + particípio” na negativa: B, “He shouldn't have done that”. C e E são as mais escolhidas por engano, mas “could not have made it” e “cannot have done that” afirmam impossibilidade — “não é possível que ele tenha feito” —, que é outra coisa. D (“might not have done”) expressa dúvida sobre o que ocorreu, não dever descumprido. A erra duas vezes: “mustn't have” não serve para reprovar o passado, e “made it” significaria “conseguiu”, não “fez isso”. A Fuvest não publicou o gabarito desta prova; esta resposta é a leitura do nosso time, não a oficial.
