Small Bodies: uma exposição sobre bonecas e o que elas revelam (B2)

The exhibition Small Bodies, now at the city museum, does something braver than nostalgia. It lines up three hundred dolls from the past century and lets the visitor notice what changes and what does not. The waists narrow, then widen slightly, then narrow again. Skin tones diversify, though far later than the catalogue admits. The curators resist easy conclusions, which is the show's chief virtue and occasionally its weakness: after the fourth panel explaining that toys reflect their societies, one begins to want an argument rather than a mirror. Where the exhibition succeeds completely is in the final room, filled with dolls repaired by their owners, missing hair, inked with names. Manufacturers designed these objects; children finished them. That quiet observation is worth more than the two rooms of statistics preceding it.

  3. C) indiferente ao acervo exposto, embora favorável ao projeto do museu.

  5. E) elogiosa quanto à contenção dos curadores, mas insatisfeita com a ausência de uma tese.

Resposta correta: E

A resenha é claramente mista: a recusa de conclusões fáceis é "the show's chief virtue and occasionally its weakness", e o resenhista confessa querer "an argument rather than a mirror". Dizer que a avaliação é inteiramente negativa contraria a abertura, em que a mostra faz algo "braver than nostalgia". A alternativa sobre as estatísticas inverte o julgamento final, já que a observação da última sala vale mais "than the two rooms of statistics preceding it".
