The Small Percentage: por que a aviação é difícil de descarbonizar (B1)

Flying is responsible for a small percentage of global emissions, and this figure is often used to end the discussion. The number, however, hides two facts. First, a very small part of the world population takes most of the flights, so the emissions per passenger are enormous. Second, aviation is difficult to decarbonise: batteries are still too heavy for long routes, and sustainable fuels remain scarce and expensive. Some governments have therefore begun to tax frequent flyers rather than tickets. Although the measure is unpopular, it targets the behaviour that actually produces the impact.
