Thirty-Four Degrees by Ten: escolas construídas para outro clima (B2)

Last October, three schools in the eastern district sent pupils home before lunch. The reason was not illness or a strike but temperature: classrooms built in the nineteen-sixties, with wide south-facing windows and no shading, reached thirty-four degrees by mid-morning. Head teachers describe an awkward position. Closing the school protects children but pushes the problem onto working parents, most of whom cannot simply leave. The regional authority has promised external blinds and ventilation for eleven buildings, though the work will not begin before next year. Meanwhile staff improvise with foil, fans and rearranged timetables that move demanding subjects to the early morning. What nobody in the district disputes is that the buildings were designed for a climate that no longer exists. The disagreement is only about who should pay to correct that.

Resposta correta: C

O fecho separa consenso e conflito com clareza: "What nobody in the district disputes is that the buildings were designed for a climate that no longer exists. The disagreement is only about who should pay to correct that". A alternativa sobre as temperaturas transforma em polêmica um dado apresentado como fato pela reportagem. A alternativa sobre os horários também não se sustenta, pois os ajustes de grade aparecem como improviso dos funcionários, e não como objeto de disputa.
