Interviewer: You have taught for twenty-two years. What has changed most?
Ms Ferreira: The students arrive with more information and less patience. That is not a criticism; the world is faster now.
Interviewer: And the profession itself?
Ms Ferreira: Salaries have improved slightly, although not enough. What worries me is that young colleagues leave after two or three years. They are exhausted by paperwork, not by teaching.
Interviewer: Would you choose this career again?
Ms Ferreira: Yes, without hesitation. When a student returns ten years later to say thank you, everything makes sense.
