Pandas: primeira condicional (B1)

The giant panda spends up to fourteen hours a day eating bamboo, a plant with very little energy. Because its digestive system is closer to a carnivore's, the animal must eat enormous quantities simply to stay alive. Chinese reserves have connected separate areas of forest with green corridors, so young pandas can find partners more easily. Numbers are rising slowly, but climate change threatens the mountains where bamboo grows best. If those forests disappear, the species ___ in the wild, even though zoos around the world will still keep a few individuals.

Ver gabarito comentado

Resposta correta: B

A condição vem no present simple ("if those forests disappear"), indicando uma possibilidade real no futuro: é a primeira condicional, cuja oração principal usa "will + infinitivo". "Would not survive" pertence à segunda condicional e não combina com um "if" no presente. "Will not surviving" é agramatical, pois "will" nunca é seguido de gerúndio, e "would not have survived" remete a um passado hipotético.
